How to Improve Search Ranking with On-Page SEO

If you follow a few simple on-page search engine optimization tips, you can increase your search engine ranking, improve the performance of your website and convert more visitors. Over the long run, this can drastically impact your visibility and the traffic your website receives.

Once you find the right topic and keyword phrases and craft a compelling and search engine optimized title, url and meta-description, you will want to make sure to optimize the content on your site.

Using Keywords in Webpage Content

If possible, place your main keyword phrase in the first few sentences of the content on your webpage.

Aside from having the complete keyword phrase, make sure to include a few variations of the keyword. This includes using the individual words that make up the keyword phrase, as well as variations of the keyword phrase itself. This will help improve your ranking for the main keyword phrase and your chances of ranking for other variations of the keyword.

There used to be a lot of debate over the optimum keyword density. In the last few years, the debate has subsided. The general consensus today is that it is best to focus on writing great content over worrying about how many times you use a keyword and the number of variations.

Paragraph Structure for SEO

People tend to quickly browse webpages in lieu of reading them from beginning to end. By breaking up content into short, focused paragraphs, it is easier for visitors to read and find the information they need.

Heading Tags and SEO

Heading tags are another important component of on-page search engine optimization. Search engines use heading tags, denoted by H1 to H5 tags in HTML, to communicate structure and the focus of individual sections within a webpage.

Adding headings and using H1 to H5 tags to your website will make it easier to read and improve your website’s search engine ranking.

When choosing headings, incorporate variations of your main keyword phrase that help to communicate how that section relates to the main topic of the webpage. In general, H1 and H2 tags are used for titles and sub-titles, and H3-H5 are used to communicate structure and hierarchy within content on a webpage.
