Looking back on 2012 a few social media platforms stand out for their exceptional growth while others appear to have stagnated. One of the biggest success stories of all the social media platforms in 2012 is Pinterest with it’s 1000% increase in monthly visitors. Google Plus is another winner, growing to become the second largest social network after Facebook. The big looser for the year appears to be Facebook with a 4% decrease in monthly visitors.
As social media platforms continue to grow in size their importance to marketers and brands continues to rise. It is critical that brands and marketers think about social media platforms strategically when deciding how to allocate time and resources on social media marketing.
