Yesterday, we compiled a list of people, news organizations and government entities to follow on Twitter for those of you who are interested in staying informed on the events taking place in Syria.
Today, we’ve taken two more steps towards simplifying things for our readership:
- Created a new Twitter account devoted solely to news and politics: @SMCNewsPolitics
- Compiled a public Twitter list, SyriaNews, which includes all the Twitter accounts we find integral to follow for breaking news and updates in Syria
We have also been in contact with a Syrian activist, @AnonymousSyria, who has provided us with over a dozen new users to follow. Browse through them below, and follow those you find the most informative. Otherwise, just subscribe to our SyriaNews list on Twitter, to which we will be adding many of the names below:
@abuhatem – A Syrian located in the United States, he tweets prolifically on the situation in his home country.
@hominoid555 – His Twitter account places him in the United Kingdom, but we’re told that he translates news from Arabic to English.
@ZainSyr – A Syrian in Damascus, this is another great source — but note that many tweets are in Arabic.
@luv2live2 – Another prolific source, although we do not currently have any specifics on this user.
@hallak – @AnonymousSyria tells us that this Allepian located in the United States posts good comments and news from mainstream outlets.
@AlexanderPageSY – This political activist and citizen journalist originally operated out of Damascus, but was forced to move to Cairo to avoid arrest.
@BSyria – A recent tweet from this Syrian: “The bravest people on earth will get their freedom. The only variable is the cost.”
@GDoumany – From Douma, many of this activist’s tweets are in Arabic.
@LccSy – This is the Twitter account for the Local Coordination Committees of Syria.
@edwardedark – This is another passionate Aleppian activist worth following.
@SooriMadsoos – According to their profile, this user is “(t)weeting for a Secular Syrian State and a military with no political party affiliation.”

@LeShaque – Profile description: “Syrian revolutionary and proud of it. Al-Ayyam English staff writer.”
@ANA_Feed – This is the Twitter feed for the Activist News Association.
As always, please contact us if you have any more pertinent users to add to this list or leave a comment below.
